Foster Home Feedback

1/19/18: These are seriously two of the sweetest Chihuahuas. We have had them since October and they have been fun, playful additions to our household. They are a little older and have spent their lives together with a single owner. After she passed away, they came to the rescue to find a new home and we would like to keep them together!

They have been absolutely fine with our three dogs and I would consider them very dog-friendly. That being said, they’ve only liked to play with each other!  They are mostly potty trained when the weather outside is reasonably decent. However, with the bitterly cold weather, they have had frequent accidents. They have used potty pads in the past, but I am working with them to only go outside. I would say they are approximately 75% potty trained, which isn’t bad for a Chihuahua!

~Elphaba (brown coat)

We call her the brave one as she was the first to come out of the kennel after we brought them home. They were very nervous when we brought them home and spent the first couple of days snuggle together in the kennel watching us and the dogs go about our daily life. Elphaba was the first to come out and explore, meet the other dogs, and get to know us. She wants nothing more than to be with her people, snuggling close to them or following them around as they go about their day.  She has been great meeting new people and kids. She is great with kids, but with her tiny size, she needs to be around considerate children only who will not injure her.

Elphaba had complications from her spay after coming to the rescue. She developed esophagitis and was not able to keep food down for weeks. After a lengthy medication intervention, she is now able to eat puréed prescription food without issue. We are in the process of experimenting with non-prescription food to see if she will tolerate a change. This may be a long-term issue for Elphaba that requires a diet of soft food. The food runs approx. $65 for a case of 24 cans which lasts a month or so.

~Glinda (tan coat)

Glinda is the feisty one of the pair who takes a little longer to feel comfortable in situations. She also has been great meeting new people and kids. She is great with kids, but with her tiny size, she needs to be around considerate children only who will not injure her. She is very attached to her people and wants to be on a lap or near us all the time.

They sleep in crates at night and are crated during the day when we are not home. It’s not that they were getting into anything, but to prevent accidents during the day. They keep their kennels clean and can be left 6-8 hours without a potty break.

We are absolutely in love with “the girls.”  We want them to find the best home possible in their retirement. They are loving, friendly, and adorable. They need a home where they get attention and lots of lap time.

11/21/17: Glinda and Elphaba are a bonded pair. They have lived their whole lives together and are co-dependent. We just can't split up a friendship like that!
